Week of 12/31/10, Issue 1: Real Lifs VS Movies, Real Girl's Story On Love, And More!

Life VS The Movies

Life is totally like the movies. Life is full of drama, and things are constantly happening. There are bad guys, and good guys, and heroes. There's always a problem in someones life, and chances are, they'll be a good solution. You may not ride off into the sunset with your prince, but in the end, everyone has a highlight in their life.
-Mia, age 12

Life isn't close to the movies by a long shot. There isn't a happily ever after, and there isn't the words 'The End' in big sparkly letters. The girl doesn't get the guy, and the bad guy doesn't die. Life isn't like that. THE END.
-Sabrina, age 15

A Real Girl's Story On Love

-Cammie, age 13
Me and my best friend for life, Sandra, both had a crush on a kid in our class named Nick. I would talk to him, and she'd talk to him. Eventually, she told me he wasn't her type. Except she kept on talking to him-they even walked to lunch together. They started talking a lot. They'd sit together and chat, and smile at each other.

Then, one day when I was walking and I wanted to talk to Nick badly. So, I walked over and said, 'hi'. In response he grinned and said, "I know you like me. Sandra told me," and with that he walked away. I was completely crushed.
"I felt so used." Casey tells You-Girl. "I thought she was my friend."

Where Is This Headed?

I'm in mad loved with this guy named Ryan. Except I can't help but smile at him and talk him every time to see him. I don't want to be a stalker, but I feel that I need to be noticed so there's a chance for us. What should I do? I NEED URGENT HELP.
-Lilly, age 9

How To Get Noticed

If you feel invisible at school, there's no need. You can get noticed fast and easy, by following these steps:

1.  Wear bright colors. Don't wear dark shades. Be creative and orginal with your clothing. If you have a dress code, throw on some cool tights or a pair of funky hairbands. You have unlimited options.

2. Say 'hi' to strangers. Maybe you're not getting noticed because they don't know you exist! Get to know people. Wave to random people when going to your classes. Compliment friends and soon-to-be-friends! Or better yet, say 'hello' to someone else who feels invisible. It's easy.

3. Run for student council. You have to present in front of the school. How could you NOT get noticed? Make stickers and give them to people. Make banners and signs. Ask others to help you do so. And if you win, then you won't want to meet people, they'll want to meet you! Don't be shy to do so. You'll feel known, elected or not elected.

4. Join in other activities or clubs. You'll get to know people while doing fun stuff! Don't join a small group, join a big one so you have a variety of people to know. You may meet people you don't like-that's fine-but in a big enough group, chances are, you'll collect new friends. Make sure to join something you like to do so you can connect to others.

5. Start your own group/club and ask others to join in! Start a club where you do something you absolutely adore so you can find others that like the same thing. Create contests in your club. Make it exciting. Post advertisements around the school, and ask one of your teachers if you can announce the grand opening. And have fun, no matter what.
